Thai authorities confirmed that former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa arrived at Don Mueang International Airport in Thailand today (11) at around 8 pm Bangkok time.

The Singaporean authorities said that Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa left for Thailand this evening from the Singapore Seletar International Airport after the expiry of the short-term tourist permit granted to him to stay in Singapore.

Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has a diplomatic passport so he can stay in Thailand for a period of 90 days, said Mr. Don Pramudvinai, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was allowed to come to Thailand on humanitarian grounds and Mr. Rajapaksa promised not to do any political activities during his stay in Thailand while seeking permanent asylum in another country, Mr. Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan O Cha said.
