Yupun breaks the 10-sec barrier in 100m event

Yupun Abeykon became the first Sri Lankan and the first South Asian to break the 10-second barrier in the 100m event for the first time.

Abeykoon previously competed in the finals of the Resisprint International Chaux-de-Fonds 2022 in Switzerland, finishing with a timing of 9.96 seconds.

Abeykoon won the race, with Cuban sprinter Reynier Mena coming second in 9.99 seconds and Michael Zeze Meba finishing third in 10.00 seconds.

Abeykoon qualified for the 100m finals after running 10.11 seconds in the first heat and winning first.
